Piercing Requirements

Getting Your First (or Next) Piercing

You must be 16 years old for most piercings (14 with a parent present on limited piercings), with government issued photo ID. However, more extreme piercings will require you to be 18.

Beyond age requirements, we ask and strongly advise you eat and remain well hydrated prior to getting a piercing. With plenty of places to eat around our Vancouver shops, that won’t be a problem!

After Care Instructions

Caring for Facial and Body Piercings

Twice daily, use Neilmed saline spray to restore the natural pH balance of your healing tissue by spraying gently to rinse and remove any crusted matter from the jewelry. Consistency during the recommended healing times is essential. It is important to avoid allowing the area behind the jewelry to remain wet, as lingering moisture will create excess scabbing. A hair dryer on a cool setting can help dry the area. Never touch, spin, or twist your fresh piercing.

After Care Instructions

Caring for Oral Piercings

Oral piercings require different aftercare, due to the fact that we use our mouths for lots of activities throughout the day. Rinse your mouth with cold water after any time you eat, drink, or smoke. Avoid caffeine, alcohol, and whitening toothpaste during healing.

Irritation vs. Infection

Genuine infections are very rare, caused by bacteria entering an open wound. Most piercing problems are a result of irritation. Minimize jewellery movement and touching your piercing, and it will heal fine.

Downsizing

Many piercings are initially done with slightly longer jewellery to account for swelling. After the appropriate amount of healing time, consider downsizing your jewellery for a better fit.

Heal Times

Your body heals from the outside in, so observing the recommended healing times from your piercer is essential. When in doubt, err on the side of caution and assume longer.

Piercing FAQs

These are some of the common questions we get asked about piercings and the piercing process. If you don’t see the info you need, you can always call your nearest Adrenaline studio and ask one of our experts.

Does it hurt?

Pain is relative, as everyone has a different tolerance. With that said, people would not be returning for piercing after piercing if it was that bad. The benefits of the beautiful piercing that you get will far outweigh the procedure.

How long does it take to heal?

It really depends on the body part that is getting pierced. A tongue may heal in three weeks, whereas a nipple may heal in 12 months. Healing times vary significantly, but make sure you follow all aftercare instructions.

What body jewelry material should I start with and why?

Titanium, surgical steel, and gold are the best options to start with as they are the materials found to have the least reactions in healing piercings.

Can I still breastfeed after piercing my nipple(s)?

Yes. Your nipple is like a sponge and the jewelry will not block breast milk from exiting. Be sure to remove the jewelry before attempting to breastfeed, however.

Are piercings safe?

Yes. Piercings are perfectly safe assuming that you are seeing a reputable piercer in a shop that is following all health regulations, and assuming you are following the recommended aftercare given to you during the piercing.

How much does a piercing cost?

Piercing cost depends on many variables, such as body placement, style of jewel, and material of jewelry. You can come in any time to have one of our sales staff run you through all the options for the piercing that you are wanting.

How many sizes can I jump when stretching my piercing, and how often?

We highly recommend just one size at a time to prevent damage. You’ll need to wait approximately two months between stretches.

Why can I only stretch my piercing with certain materials?

When stretching, the skin in the earlobes micro-tears to accommodate the larger size. Titanium, surgical steel and pyrex are the materials found to have the least reactions in healing tissue. Organic options should never be stretched with as they are porous and can stick to the healing tissue.
