Laser Tattoo Removal

Laser Tattoo Removal Pre/Post Care

Pre-Treatment

Prior to your treatment sessions, your skin must be healthy.  No sun exposure, tanning beds and sunless tanning cream for 4 weeks prior to treatment.  All make-up, creams or oils must be removed, as well as jewellery at or near the site.  If necessary, shave the area to be treated the night before.  If you have any cosmetic tattoos/permanent make-up near the area, please inform us.

Laser Tattoo Removal After Care

Following your treatment, your technician will explain all after care with you.  Clean the area twice a day with warm water and a mild, unscented soap, then pat dry.  Apply a thin layer of Aquaphor ointment after cleansing and while the skin is still moist.  Cover with a non-stick pad until healed.  Blistering and crusting may occur, and is not uncommon.  Do not rub, scratch or pick the area.  Avoid UV exposure to the area for 4 weeks after treatment, and between sessions.  Drink plenty of water immediately following a session.

FAQ

Does it work?

The PicoSure is effective on all colours and skin types.  Its picosecond technology uses a photo-mechanical pressure wave that shatters the smallest target particles , without injuring the surrounding area, and requiring less treatments than traditional nanosecond lasers.

Is the PicoSure safe?

Unlike traditional nanosecond lasers that use photo-thermal technology to heat the ink particle, the PicoSure uses a more powerful pressure wave that better directs the energy into shattering the ink particles, minimizing the possibility of negative affect.

Does it hurt?

It may.  However, the procedure is very fast, much faster than applying the original tattoo.  A refrigerated cooling fan will also be used to alleviate the discomfort during the treatment.  The discomfort is likened to elastic band snaps.

How many treatments will be required?

There are a number of various factors that will affect the treatment response.  Age of tattoo, size, location, density of ink, quality of ink, health of the client etc. can all play important roles in how quickly clearance can be achieved.  Anywhere from 3 to 12 treatments may be required.

What is the recovery time?

Immediately following treatment, blistering or crusting may occur for approximately 7-14 days.  You must wait 8 weeks between sessions to ensure the lymphatic system can flush out shattered ink particles effectively.  If you are looking to tattoo the treated area, whether faded or removed, you must wait three months after the final treatment.

Will there be scarring?

With the PicoSure, incidents of scarring are very rare, and are usually the result of excessive and un-treated blistering.  Some people may experience hyper-pigmentation (the darkening of skin colour) or hypo-pigmentation (the lightening of skin colour), but this is usually temporary and normal skin is typically restored once healing is complete.

What is the cost?

Laser tattoo removal is priced based on the size of the area to be treated and the number of sessions required.  Consultations are free and your technician will offer packages based on the anticipated number of treatments.
